The Centre for Accessible Environments is an architectural charity and centre
of excellence on the practicalities of making the buildings and the environment
in which we live accessible to all, including disabled and older people.
The introduction of the Disability Discrimination Act created a need for
clear and accurate information and the CAE uses film as part of
its wider strategy to demonstrate good accessible design.
Ocicat has made four films with the CAE informing an
audience of architects, planners and opinion formers
as to the role of the Centre, clarifying the requirements
of the DDA and demonstrating
best design practices. Each film has carried complex
messages, carefully avoiding the pitfalls of stereotyping and special
pleading, while being clear and direct. We used case studies and a documentary
approach to demonstrate how good accessibility benefits all our lives.
